Israel’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dany Danon, dismissed the two-state summit on the situation in Palestine as “theatre,” further asserting that states’ decisions to recognize Palestine are driven purely by “domestic self-interest.”

Ahead of the High-Level International Conference, chaired by France and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Danon criticized the event as “shameful,” adding that Hamas’s praise for the conference only reinforces the “delusion” surrounding it.

With world leaders such as French President Emmanuel Macron, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, among others, set to officially recognize Palestine as a state, Danon described the development as “detached from reality.” He added, “Today, heads of state will tell you there is a future in Gaza without Hamas. To them, I say, who will be ensuring that?”

“The war will continue,” Danon stated, “until Israel has returned all its hostages and Hamas is out of the game completely.” He concluded that the U.S. and Israel “will not take part in this charade.” Regarding the two-state solution, Danon said, “Since October 7th, it is off the table. We are only focused on eliminating Hamas.”
