UN Silent as Kenyan Minister Urges Police to Shoot Protesters

As demonstrations continue across Kenya over allegations of corruption and police brutality, new footage has emerged. In the video, Interior Minister Kipchumba Murkomen appears to instruct officers to “shoot protesters.”

The clip surfaced nearly a week after at least 16 demonstrators were reported killed during protests on June 25th. In response, the United Nations and Secretary-General António Guterres issued general calls for calm, urging respect for human rights and dialogue.

However, when asked specifically about the minister’s comments, UN Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric stated, “I have not seen the video.”

The statement, “We have told the police, anybody who attempts to go to the police station to attack, shoot them,” has raised concern among observers.

According to critics, such remarks may be viewed as inconsistent with international humanitarian standards. Nonetheless, the situation remains fluid, and the UN has not confirmed any direct investigation or engagement on the remarks.

As tensions persist, the need for careful monitoring and measured international attention appears increasingly likely.
