Aid as a Death Trap: Gaza Civilian Toll Mounts
UN Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric responded firmly to the latest Israeli attack on Palestinian aid seekers, declaring, “No one should die while trying to get food.”
On June 20th, Israeli forces killed 35 Palestinians as they approached a Gaza aid site run by the controversial U.S.- and Israeli-funded Gaza Humanitarian Foundation.
The Foundation, active since May 27th, is widely condemned as a “death trap” by locals and international observers, accused of luring starving civilians to fatal ambushes. Dujarric criticized Israel’s tactics and stressed, “We have a humanitarian distribution that works — we just need to be allowed to do our job.”
According to Gaza’s Government Media Office, 409 aid seekers have now been killed, with 3,203 injured. As the death toll grows, the UN is calling for urgent, alternative aid efforts that do not endanger Palestinian lives.
