Trump Confronts UN with America-First Vision

During his high-level address to the United Nations General Assembly, Trump slammed the UN, denounced open immigration, dismissed climate change as a hoax, highlighted Global South oil supplies to Russia, criticized Palestinian recognition as a “reward for terrorism,” and rejected renewable energy as “vastly inefficient.”

U.S. President Donald Trump delivered a combative address at the United Nations General Assembly, casting the institution as ineffective, undermining U.S. sovereignty, and incapable of addressing the world’s most urgent crises.

“The United Nations wasn’t there for us,” Trump said early in his speech, recalling global conflicts in which, he claimed, the organization offered little support when the “U.S ended 7 wars since his term began.” He adds, “The United Nations did not even try to help in any of them. Never even received a phone call from the United Nations offering to help seal the deal. What is the purpose of the United Nations? It has such tremendous, tremendous potential. All they seem to do is write a really strongly worded letter. It’s empty words that do not solve wars. Only thing that solves wars is action.”

Trump framed his remarks around what he called a reassertion of U.S. strength under his leadership. “We have reasserted that America belongs to the American people. I encourage all countries to take their stand in defense of their own people,” he declared, before pivoting to attacks on migration policies, climate initiatives, and the UN’s role in global conflicts.

On migration, Trump accused the UN of “funding an assault on Western countries and their borders.” He charged:

  • “The UN is supporting people that are illegally coming into the United States.”

  • “The UN also provided food, shelter, transportation to illegal aliens, can you believe that?”

  • “The UN is supposed to stop invasions, not sponsor them.”

Extending the point to Europe, Trump warned that “Europe is being invaded by a force of illegal aliens. No one has ever seen it before. It is not sustainable, and because they choose to be politically correct, they are doing just absolutely nothing about it. Both their immigration and their suicidal energy ideas will be the death of Western Europe.”

Trump also denounced President Joe Biden’s border policies, alleging they had “empowered murderous gangs, child traffickers, human smugglers, and prisoners,” and called migration “the failed experiment of open borders.”

Energy and climate were another centerpiece of his critique. “We are getting rid of the falsely named renewables,” Trump said, dismissing green energy as “pathetic.” He rejected international climate science outright: “Climate change is the greatest con job ever perpetrated in the world. All these predictions made by the United Nations were wrong and were made by stupid people. If you don’t get rid of this green scam, your country is going to fail. The carbon footprint is a hoax. Carbon footprint is nonsense, by the way.”

Turning to global conflicts, Trump pressed for ceasefires in Gaza and Ukraine, while sharply criticizing Iran and Russia. “We have to get the ceasefire in Gaza done. The rewards would be too great for Hamas terrorists for their atrocities. Release the hostages now. We have to stop the war in Gaza, we have to stop it,” he insisted.

On Ukraine, he argued that the war would never have broken out under his presidency. “I’ve also been working to stop relentlessly the war in Ukraine. I thought that was going to be the easiest one. This war would never have happened if I were president. It’s not making Russia look good, it’s making Russia look bad.” He singled out China and India, charging that “they are the primary funders of the war by purchasing Russian oil,” and demanded, “They have to immediately cease all oil purchases from Russia.”

Trump also leveled threats against Iran. “The world’s number one sponsor of terror can never be allowed to get a nuclear weapon,” he warned, adding that “many of Iran’s military commanders are dead.”

Throughout the address, Trump tied these global crises back to his central theme: a lack of UN credibility. “Not only is the UN not solving the problems it should, it’s often creating new problems,” he said. “All I care about is not winning prizes, it’s stopping wars.”
