The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has reported extensive military activity by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) across its area of operations, while continuing to facilitate humanitarian assistance and support efforts to counter misinformation in the country.
According to UNIFIL, military activity observed in recent days has been characterized by high-density armoured movements, large-scale engineering and demolition works, and sustained logistical traffic throughout southern Lebanon.
Yesterday alone, peacekeepers reported intensive aerial activity involving fighter aircraft and various unmanned aerial systems. UNIFIL recorded 72 violations of Lebanese airspace by the IDF, amounting to more than 110 hours of overflight. In addition, eight airstrikes were carried out by IDF fighter aircraft within UNIFIL’s area of operations.
Peacekeepers also documented a total of 531 projectile trajectories during the same period. Of those, 526 originated from IDF positions south of the Blue Line and within UNIFIL’s area of operations. Five trajectories were presumed to have been launched by Hizbullah, with one crossing the Blue Line.
Despite the heightened military activity, UNIFIL continued to support humanitarian efforts in coordination with the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and in liaison with the IDF.
Nine humanitarian missions were facilitated yesterday, including eight operations in Sector West, primarily directed toward the city of Tyre, and one mission in Sector East.
Meanwhile, UNIFIL announced the launch of a new initiative aimed at countering misinformation and disinformation in Lebanon.
The campaign, funded by UNIFIL and led by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), was launched in Beirut in cooperation with the Lebanese Ministry of Information. It features a series of short video clips broadcast on Tele Liban promoting fact-checking and the responsible use of freedom of expression.
According to the United Nations, the initiative seeks to encourage the public to verify information before sharing content online and to raise awareness about misleading information circulating across digital platforms.
The launch comes as UN agencies continue to stress the importance of reliable information and public awareness amid ongoing tensions and security challenges affecting southern Lebanon.
