Six people were killed and ten others wounded in the latest Israeli onslaught in the Middle East. The strike, carried out by drone in eastern Lebanon, was labeled by Israeli officials as an act of “preemptive self-defense” against the militia group Hezbollah.

The operation took place in the Deir Sayran district of Nabatieh, Lebanon. It was justified by Israel as a move to cripple Hezbollah’s underground assets and dismantle its military infrastructure.

According to the Israeli Administration, the strike was “successful.” Among the casualties was a Hezbollah operative identified as Hassam Qassem Gharab.

Blaming Hezbollah for violating the August 2024 ceasefire, the IDF claimed, “Gharab was directing terror cells in Syria with the intent to launch rocket attacks toward the Golan Heights.” The IDF added, “The terrorist’s activity posed a threat to the State of Israel and its citizens.”

Farhan Haq, spokesperson for the Secretary-General, described the act as another dangerous step toward regional instability. He stressed, “What the Secretary-General wants is for all parties to respect the ceasefire that was agreed to last year.”

Meanwhile, Lebanon’s cabinet is meeting to discuss Hezbollah’s disarmament. But the group’s refusal raises fears of wider conflict with both Israel and the United States.
